As well as bricklaying in the Blyth, Cramlington, Whitley bay and Newcastle areas I am also happy to work on the care and maintenance of existing brickwork.
Pointing (or repointing) brickwork is basically a process that involves replacing the mortar between bricks in order that they remain in, or return to a weatherproof condition.
The first stage of a repointing project involves involves clearing out the old and loose mortar to a depth of appx 10ml. This work can be carried out on smaller projects the “old fashioned” way using a hammer and chisel but nowadays it is more common to use a power tool such as an angle grinder or power chisel.
The photograph on the right shows some brickwork belonging to a customer in Blyth (or was it Cramlington? – I forget ) that was in need of a little “tender loving care”
Ivy (on the other side of the wall) had eaten into the mortar and the whole thing was in danger of falling down. Some parts of the wall had to be rebuilt (using the original bricks) while other less damaged sections merely required repointing.
The second image shows some brickwork after repointing.
